Ennovi
Strategy, naming, CGI + Animation
The screens
Interplex, an electromechanical manufacturer that had spent 60 years making bespoke interconnect solutions for the medical, IT, and OEM markets, saw an opening in the 2023 EV boom to spin out a new brand rather than keep operating under its existing tier-1-supplier identity. The problem was positioning: Interplex wanted to leap-frog the traditional tier 1 supplier role and work directly with OEMs on bespoke-to-print battery and drivetrain solutions, which meant it needed a distinct name and brand rather than a line extension. The resulting brand, Ennovi, was built through strategy and naming work, then expressed through CGI and animation rather than conventional photography—fitting for a company selling engineered components that are hard to photograph compellingly. The case page itself is structured around a 'Boring / Not boring' framing: it states the plain functional description of the business, then the more ambitious repositioning ('an EV partner helping the world electrify faster'), before showing a series of before/after image pairs and three video reels that presumably demonstrate the new visual system in motion.
The 'Boring / Not boring' framing is a smart way to make the strategic leap legible in seconds—stating the plain manufacturing description right next to the ambitious EV-partner positioning shows the gap the naming and brand work had to close. Leaning on CGI and animation rather than product photography is a sound call for interconnect and drivetrain components that don't read as visually exciting on their own, and the paired before/after images suggest a deliberate, demonstrable visual transformation rather than just a new logo.
The client is Interplex, a 60-year-old electromechanical manufacturer of bespoke interconnect solutions serving the medical, IT, and OEM/mobility sectors. In 2023, anticipating the EV boom, Interplex used this work to launch a new brand, Ennovi, aimed at moving beyond its traditional tier 1 supplier role to work directly with OEMs on battery and drivetrain solutions.
This work is credited on the case page to BBH/Interplex, with Boring Industries presenting it as one of their own case studies covering strategy, naming, and CGI/animation. Based on their broader portfolio shown alongside this project (NTT Data, Anansi, Elevate), Boring Industries appears to specialize in brand narrative, positioning, and naming work for B2B and industrial clients across sectors like infrastructure, logistics, and telecom.
